2020 FYSB RHY Artistic Expression Contest

Artistic expression can manifest in many forms. When youth are given an outlet to express themselves through art, they are shown their thoughts and feelings have value and they are making an important contribution to the world around them. The Family and Youth Services Bureau's (FYSB) Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) grantees are invited to engage young people in a creative opportunity to tell their stories. This contest empowers young people to express their talent(s), passion, and/or experiences through an art form that is meaningful to the artist(s). The 2020 FYSB RHY Artistic Expression Contest is open to visual arts, literature, and performing arts.

To enter, submit a .pdf (poetry, literature, etc.), .jpg (sketch, photography, etc.) or an .mp4 or .mov (dance, musical performance, spoken word, etc.) and a one- to two-page description detailing the meaning of the art piece and the youth-driven creative process.

Entries will be judged on young people’s role in crafting the entry and narrative, meaning and creativity of the design/story, and the connection to the theme “The Power of Resiliency.” Agencies may submit group entries or individual entries from youth. Judges will include a panel of FYSB staff, RHYTTAC Advisory Board members, and youth from NSPN’s National Youth Advisory Board Collaboration Committee (YCC).
