Tools for Addressing Racial Disparity in RHY Programs
Racial Equity Network, formed by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, is a forum aimed at building awareness of and addressing racial disparities in systems responding to homelessness. As part of this effort, the Network designed a tool that helps organizations use service data to assess whether racial and ethnic disparities exist within their own programs.

Better Ways to Assess and Treat Depression in Black Adolescents
A recent study by Rutgers University-Camden suggests that depression in Black adolescents is expressed differently than in other age and racial groups, and requires specialized assessment and treatment to reduce associated risks of suicide. The study focused on 792 teens and young adults living in publicly subsidized housing in four cities. Findings show that Black adolescents suffering from depression are more likely to complain of interpersonal problems and physical ailments than their White peers. Professionals who assess and treat Black adolescents must be aware of gaps in existing tools.
