The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program is seeking qualified professionals!

The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program is seeking qualified professionals and master’s level students with a background in adolescent health, human services, or public health to serve as reviewers and panel chairpersons for a teen pregnancy prevention grant review process.  For more information on ACYF and the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program, please visit  www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/fysb/index.htm.

How are Grant Application Reviewers Selected?

  • Grant application reviewers are selected for their subject matter expertise and their ability to objectively evaluate the quality of a grant application submitted to receive federal funding. They are expected to use their expertise to assess grant applications according to the published evaluation criteria.

Grant Reviewer Qualifications:

  • Professionals with human services or public health experience, to include program work in teen pregnancy prevention and/or adolescent STI/HIV prevention
  • Students who are pursuing a master’s degree in the human service or public health fields 
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate complex applications 
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a virtual team environment
  • Ability to provide written and oral evaluative comments
  • Reviewer profile in the ACF grant reviewer database

Required Tools:

  • Telephone service and computer with reliable Internet access via broadband or DSL
  • Windows or Mac-based interface
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 9
  • Back-up plan to access the Internet in the event the primary Internet connection is lost during a review. A connection must be re-established within three hours

Level of Commitment:

  • Participate in approximately 3 mandatory web-based training sessions to prepare for the grant review process
  • Devote 8 hours daily over a period of 5 to 6 days to review applications

FYSB invites you to participate in a webinar and give feedback to the Obama Administration on Comprehensive Strategies for Youth.

In order for community partnerships to have a positive collective impact on young people's lives, federal policies need to support comprehensive, place-based interagency efforts. The Forum for Youth Investment, in partnership with the National Collaboration for Youth, the American Institutes for Research, the Campaign for Youth and the Aspen Forum for Community Solutions, invite you to a webinar to learn about plans by the Obama administration to support such comprehensive efforts for youth, especially disconnected youth.

Martha Moorehouse, a recipient of the Ready by 21 Policymaker of the Year Award and chair of the Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs, and Sarah Oberlander, who leads the Working Group's production of FindYouthInfo.gov, will present Pathways for Youth, the working group's draft strategic plan for federal collaboration, and invites participants to provide feedback.

Kathy Stack (White House Office of Management and Budget) and Johan Uvin (Department of Education) will present the latest work from the Interagency Forum on Disconnected Youth, which they co-chair. Last year, on a webinar hosted by the Forum for Youth Investment, Stack asked participants to help shape the federal government's work through a Request for Information (RFI) about disconnected youth. Hundreds of organizations and individuals responded. Stack and Uvin discuss what was learned through the RFI and the next steps they plan to advance this work. They invite your feedback.

We will hold this webinar twice to give more participants an opportunity to ask questions. Please register for only one. 
 

2013 Discretionary Grant Reviews

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB), we are currently recruiting individuals who can serve as reviewers and/or chairpersons for the 2013 Discretionary grant reviews.  Individuals selected will have the responsibility of evaluating grant applications and assisting FYSB in selection of the best programs for funding.

Reviewer recruitment efforts for 2013 competitions now include a mandatory writing sample.  All potential reviewers must submit a writing sample in response to FYSB’s selection criterion. If you are a returning reviewer and have a completed profile and writing sample in the Administration for Children and Families Grant Operations (ACFGO) database, you are still required to complete a new writing sample. The writing sample question is contained within the following link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FYSBWritingSample.

Previously registered reviewers are required to update their existing profile by visiting:  www.acfgo.com.

Please note the following FYSB Program considerations for reviewer selection: 

  • Previous grant reviewer selection does not guarantee future reviewer participation
  • Reviewer selection is at the discretion of FYSB Program staff and is based on your knowledge and experience in the runaway and homeless youth field
  • We will not utilize reviewers who have submitted applications for the current funding cycle for FYSB (FY 2013) or have a conflict of interest (i.e. personal or financial interest in an applicant organization) including those who are FYSB contractors/sub-contractors.

A review of new and updated profiles along with writing samples will be conducted weekly and FYSB will begin making reviewer selections June 17, 2013.

The FYSB deadline for completion of this tutorial has come and gone. If your agency has not completed the required training, you will be contacted soon. You can still access the training and it is critical that you complete this training as soon as possible. Please remember that this training is required for staff responsible for entering RHYMIS data for your organization.  Specific versions of the training are available for Basic Center, Street Outreach and Transitional Living.
