Understanding Systems of Power and Privilege to Disrupt Inequity in Supporting Youth

Tuesday, February 14, 2023 | 1:00PM - 2:30PM ET

The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) and the Runaway and Homeless Youth Training and Technical Assistance Center (RHYTTAC) invite you to join us for an upcoming virtual training. Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) providers who participated in this year’s National Needs Assessment indicated that training and technical assistance around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a priority within their organizations. This training is designed to meet that need.

Participants will learn about and apply equity and justice leadership concepts such as intersectionality, systems of oppression, and anti-oppression frameworks. Common pitfalls of diversity-only programs will be shared and participants will be provided with tools and resources they can apply to improve DEI in the systems in which they are engaged.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge of the role power plays in inequitable systems and the grounding concepts that pave the way for more inclusive spaces.
  • Learn about intersectional frameworks; including race and gender as social constructs.
  • Build skills needed to effectively implement diversity programs and inspiring practices for focusing on inclusiveness and equitable outcomes for youth.

Presenters:

  • Deanna Rolffs (she/they), Senior Design Partner, Design Group International
  • Kiana Johnson (she/her), Youth Catalyst Team Consultant, Youth Collaboratory
